Health & Wellness News you can use.
Are you experiencing Pain all over, Fatigue, Brain fog, Trouble sleeping, Exercise difficulties, Irritable bowel, Headaches, Jaw pain, or Multiple sensitivities. These are the most common symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
However, when caught early and treated appropriately, FM can resolve or at least be controlled. Chiropractic care and management of FM is very effective and is becoming increasingly popular among FM sufferers. The goal of managing FM is to return you to a productive, enjoyable lifestyle allowing you to function and perform all of your desired activities.
Chiropractic care is the most popular and sought after form of alternative care or complementary medicine as 20% of American men and women utilize chiropractic care at some point in their lives. Of all the health care options, few have been found to be as satisfying to their patients as chiropractic with 80% of those seeking chiropractic treatment reporting significant pain relief, better functioning and an increased sense of wellbeing. Still, many ask questions such as, what is the science behind chiropractic and, what exactly does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractic was founding in 1895on the fact that spinal misalignment’s cause nerve interference resulting in pain, loss of function, and a host of other symptoms related to the nervous system. The entire body is connected through bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, with their supporting circulatory or blood flow system and nervous system. When the spinal structure is in good alignment, the body can handle the many stresses and challenges we all face on a daily basis. When there is a breakdown in this system, symptoms manifest and when left untreated, these symptoms can develop into chronic pain, including conditions such as fibromyalgia. Chiropractors focus to reduce pain and the many other symptoms by correcting the imbalances in the skeletal system with the objective of reducing nervous system dysfunction. Many of the techniques utilized in chiropractic care include manipulation of not only the bony structures, but also the muscles, tendons, and ligaments through various forms of manual or hands-on therapy, stretching, posture correction methods, exercise, lifestyle modification recommendations including diet and nutritional management, and activity modifications. Chiropractic care also includes discussions and instructions for modifying methods of performing tasks including bending, lifting, pulling, pushing in both at work and home activities. Work station modifications are also thoroughly investigated, especially when symptoms are consistently worse after the work day.
Patients with fibromyalgia classically have generalized pain and tender spots throughout their body and often present with back pain, neck pain, headaches, as well as arm and/or leg pain. Chiropractic care can effectively reduce the pain associated with FM by reducing bony misalignments, restoring muscle tone, and improving posture. Proper exercise training has been found to be very important in maintaining long-term control of FM and is included in the management of FM. Diet and nutritional counseling may also be beneficial. Research has been very supportive of chiropractic care for patients suffering from FM.

Everyday in my office I see people in pain and suffering. Most of them have already been to their general practitioner that has given them a prescription for something that may hide or cover up the symptoms, but does nothing for the problem. So when the drug wears off the pain remains. The ill health, pain and suffering was and is not caused by a shortage of prescription drugs in our bodies.
How is this possible, since a child I am sure most of you have been told if you’re in pain you either suffer until it’s over or you go to the pharmacy and get some ibuprofen or Advil, if this doesn’t help the next stop is your GP and most likely something stronger (with more side effects).
What if the pain killers you are prescribed just dull the pain or start becoming less effective the longer you take them for. Maybe it’s time to reconsider your options.
What other options do you have, well there are some herbal and natural supplements that have been shown to sometimes help, or you may have heard about Chiropractic.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a completely natural, gentle and effective treatment for pain originating from misaligned vertebra (bones) in the spine. Many a patient has crawled in to see me with severe back pain or with their neck frozen in a position as it’s too painful to move (after they have tried physical therapy, drugs, massage therapy, surgery). Following a short course of chiropractic spinal adjustments they discover that their immune system is stronger, they no longer have the pain that brought them in to see me, they no longer need to take the prescription drug they didn’t need in the first place, their range of motion has increased, they sleep better, etc….
Chiropractic focuses on restoring the integrity of the nervous system because it is the nervous system that controls all the other systems in our bodies. If your nervous system is not working as it should, then the systems it controls (all of them) can not work as good as they could. This can result in ill health, pain and suffering.

The following is a post from ChiroAcess April 19, 2011.
“Two research studies generated by the medical profession this year add evidence in support of the value of chiropractic maintenance care.
The first study published in January 2011 in Spine concluded that “SMT is effective for the treatment of chronic non specific LBP. To obtain long-term benefit, this study suggests maintenance spinal manipulations after the initial intensive manipulative therapy.”
The second study in April 2011, published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, provides additional support for the value of chiropractic maintenance care for post injury low back pain patients. The study followed 894 injured workers for a period of one year. During that year there were four different types of therapy available to the workers: medical management, physical therapy, chiropractic, and no therapy. Episodes of repeat disability were recorded during the year following the initial injury. Physical therapy had the highest percentage of re-injured workers followed by those receiving medical management or no treatment at all. The lowest incidence of repeat injury was found among those workers who had received chiropractic maintenance care.
The results of published surveys given to chiropractors have documented the profession’s belief in the value of maintenance care. Furthermore, during the last decade there have been a dozen peer reviewed papers on the subject. There are far more questions to be answered, but it is heartening to see medical research corroborate the studies and beliefs of the chiropractic profession.”

Recently I attended a large public awareness and fundraising event. While I enjoyed the event’s entertainment I was also pleasantly surprised that they allowed a Chiropractor to set up. But, after watching him off and on while we were enjoying the music and food I was in a state of shock at what I saw. This chiropractor was doing exactly the same thing to everybody he adjusted at this event. Not once did this chiropractor palpate the spine or preform any of the many simple checks he could have done that may have indicated the presence of a subluxation. Everybody he “adjusted” (I am using this term very loosely) received five moves. First he had them lay face down and he would push down in three (not two or four) locations, second he would have them lay on their right side and he would crack their low back then roll them onto their left side and crack their low back, then he would them lay on their back and he would crack their neck to the right then he would crack their neck to the left. I say crack because he certainly was not adjusting a subluxation nor was he, in my opinion, practicing chiropractic. This chiropractor is doing a great disservice to my chosen profession. Really it made me sick to think about how much damage he did to the recipients of his free “adjustment.”
If your chiropractor “adjusts” you like this you need a new chiropractor. Chiropractic is specific or it is nothing.
Let me ask you a question. If your chiropractor moves a vertebra one direction, does it make any sense at all for him to immediately move it back? The answer is a resounding NO.
True Chiropractic doctors examine your spine looking for spinal misalignment. A misalignment in the spine can cause an interference with the information carried by the nerves exiting the spine at that particular level. This interference decreases the body’s ability to adapt, decreases immune function, and a whole host of other problems.
Specific chiropractic spinal adjustments help to restore misaligned bones to a more normal position thus improving spinal function. Allowing soft tissue to heal, inflammation to go down, pain to ease, and improving spinal stability.
A real chiropractic adjustment is specific. It is not twisting and popping back and forth, to the right and then to the left.
Chiropractors gently correct the problem by using a broad range of adjusting methods. By correcting subluxations and restoring proper nerve flow, chiropractors help people enjoy more of their full potential for health and optimal performance. It’s about helping people of all ages – from infancy to active senior living – to enjoy better health under chiropractic care.
